With George Russell’s ROKIT Williams coming to a sudden halt during FP1, the session was closed until the circuit drain covers could be re-affixed.
A 110 kilo steel cover was sucked up from Russell’s ROKIT completely destroying the floor, with the fire extinguisher going off Russell wasn’t sure of what to expect next.
His ROKIT F1 whilst being flatbed delivered to pit lane saw the truck driver miss calculate the height of the overhead bridge and his electric arm-lifter. His truck hit the bridge and broke the arm thus allowing fine oil to pour out over the engine cover the Williams ROKIT.
Russell said he felt the front grab and fortunately the rear didn’t collapse on him. The session was stopped for track cleaning and a full check of the entire street circuit.
