Ferrari Open To Contract Extension Talks With Carlos Sainz!

In great news for Spanish fans and Ferrari fans, it appears the Italian team is ready to discuss a contract extension with Carlos Sainz after a strong debut season with the Scuderia Ferrari team.

The Spanish driver finished 5th overall in the Drivers Title Championship, enjoyed 15 consecutive finishes in the points and scored four podiums in total. He is certainly making his mark on the sport which is good to see after a very challenging couple of seasons before his glory at McLaren.

The eagerness to extend his contract is going to be news that will make Charles Leclerc push harder because Ferrari signed Leclerc thinking he was the one to bring about a World Championship. The treatment of the drivers in 2022 is sure to be fair, equal and one where both need to push.

To the fans out there, do you rate Sainz as a good leader for the team alongside Leclerc?

Team Principal Mattia Binotto: “I would like to sit down with him [Sainz]. I have not started yet the discussion with him, I don’t know what he’s got in mind as well so to date, there is not an answer to that. “First I would like to understand how he’s pleased. You have a review with him on the season and look together at the future. It will be a simple and easy discussion, no doubt.”

“You know, when we signed with Carlos, the objective was to have two good drivers that were good racers, consistent and capable of scoring points for the team”.

It is clear that Ferrari want to have two capable drivers and not drivers who are No 1 and No 2. They are looking for a balance. Their goal is to win and they believe they have the best line up in Formula 1 and in the paddock. Binotto is pretty happy with what Carlos achieved and of course being only the first season with the team.

“But we signed with him because we said he is a good racer, consistent, always scoring good points. I think he’s as well a good learner, because during the season he has improved, and I think that the end of the season is his best part of the entire season.”

Therefore, how long before we see ink to paper?
