Hot and humid once again in Singapore as we lead up to the 2019 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Grand Prix. The paddock energy is amazing with fans, team personnel, former drivers, sponsors and more being entertained and admiring the drivers as they run through all the pre-race checks. Charles Leclerc is the man of the hour and was swarmed by cameras, photographers, fans and was very polite is giving people his time. The way Leclerc carries himself in this sport is a true testament to his character and we hope this never changes. If anything, racing with strength, staying humble and being in a quality team is allowing the Monaco driver to excel and go beyond expectation.
As you look around the circuit, you will see fans decked out in their favourite driver team colours or brands, music pumping, a lovely sunset if you time the day right and lots of lights. Inside the paddock, you can feel the anticipation amongst the crowd and teams. There are meetings taking place, meals being consumed, plenty of liquids (all depending upon what you are at the event for) and celebrities enjoying themselves within a team hospitality suite. No doubt, having a night race on the calendar is special because it adds another level of enjoyment for people across the globe and the athletes within the sport.
Walking to the circuit is a rewarding feeling because you begin to analyse how the drivers feel as they go through such twisty corners and hard braking zones. They are incredible athletes when it comes to pushing on four wheels and you have to give them credit where it is due. Race day is always a different atmosphere from Thursday to Saturday. For example, the days of preparation can feel long as the teams work through issues, whilst on Saturday, qualifying can be a series of highs and lows with the honour of taking pole position something every driver wants to achieve and as you approach Sunday, the atmosphere shifts to high energy, party vibes across the team hospitalises and driver anticipation creeping in as they work towards staying as relaxed as possible.
We are ready for action! Bring on the first and second corners where anything can happen. In the past, there has been chaos and we feel with Lewis Hamilton, Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel being at the front of the grid, we are in for an absolute treat of a Grand Prix. Strategy will be vital because conditions here in Singapore may change from last night with temperatures expected to be slightly cooler, however, that could also change. The Ferrari works well in the hot conditions whereas Hamilton felt like his car lacked in performance during qualifying. Overnight, miracles can be created and Hamilton will be wanting to beat Leclerc not only to cement his World Championship, to also take on the young driver who is fitting like a glove in at Ferrari. The question remains, which direction will Vettel’s car be in going in to the first lap as the lights go out!
