There have been plenty of announcements before the Singapore Airlines Grand Prix and a key one is that Robert Kubica is leaving ROKiT Williams Racing. There were shockwaves throughout the paddock and confusion as to his exit. This was his own decision. Kubica: “It was my decision and of course, there are some consequences that will follow my decision. I will have different opportunities. I will be surprised if I was only doing a simulator and would not be racing next year. It has been a long journey.” Everyone in the pre event press conference agreed that they will miss Kubica if he does not end up with a top drive. In particular, Lewis Hamilton who grew up with Kubica in terms of a racing career made note of the quality of the ROKiT Williams Racing driver and considers him as one of the best and most talented. Hamilton did not know why Kubica would leave and was curious as to this element of his decision. There was nothing more to say from the Polish driver who has worn his heart on his sleeve since returning to the Formula 1 paddock.

Robert Kubica: “I would like to thank the team for the last two years and for helping make my comeback to the Formula One grid possible. I have enjoyed my time with ROKiT Williams Racing, both as Reserve & Development Driver and as a Race Driver this year, but I feel that the time is now right for me to move on to the next chapter in my career.”

Claire Williams, Deputy Team Principal of ROKiT Williams Racing: “I would like to thank Robert for his hard work and respect his decision to leave the team at the end of the 2019 season. Robert has been an important member of the team in both his role as Reserve & Development Driver, and subsequently as one of our Race Drivers in 2019. We thank him for his continued efforts throughout what has been a challenging couple of seasons and wish him well in his future endeavours.”

It will be interesting to see where Kubica ends up because the opportunities are limited and there are no guarantees in this sport. Watch this space to see where he ends up.
